Sale won 18 games, lost 4, with a 2.38 ERA,
with 225 strikeouts in 177 innings pitched.
2024 was a banner year for lefthanders in major league baseball.
Two lefthanded pitchers, Tarik Skubal and Chris Sale,
and three lefthanded batters, Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and Freddie Freeman, stand out above the rest.
Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers
is the winner of the NL Most Valuable Player Award,
Ohtani had 197 hits, 134 runs scored, 54 home runs, 130 RBI,
and a .310 batting average, and stole 59 bases.
Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers
is the winner of the American League Cy Young Award
Skubal won 18 games, lost 4, with a 2.39 ERA,
with 228 strikeouts in 192 innings pitched.
Freddie Freeman had a very good regular season,
although it was not MVP caliber.
Freeman had 153 hits, 81 runs scored, 35 doubles,
22 home runs, 89 RBI and a .282 batting average.
Then came the World Series, where Freeman hit a game winning grand slam in game one, and finished the series with 4 home runs and 12 RBI to earn the World Series Most Valuable Player Award.
